So begins our story, the culmination of consequences from many other tales, a chain that has been going strong since the world has been turning.

Like this one tale about a woman from long ago, young and free without worry and only her true love in her mind.

That was until one day, she was framed for breaking a precious clock belonging to the lord of the castle. Her price to pay? It was none other than her youth, rotting away in jail until the day she withered away.

Her sadness, her frustrations, her desperation, her suspicions, her anger, all of it got to her, manifesting into a horrifically powerful spirit the likes nobody could have ever expected. One that could attempt to alter the precious fabrics of time itself to her own desires. Her wrath and a truly wicked army of spirits would poison and corrupt, not just at the moment she became a spirit, a Yokai as we call it, but further in the past, and long into the future.

…Quite the tragic ending, wouldn’t you say? Such is life sometimes.

But, you’ve probably already heard the more tragic end to such a tale, once, twice, maybe even three times.

A happier end of such a story exists, where there was no wrongful framing, and a reign of peace that managed to ripple back in time itself would be in place. For 9,999 years, humans and Yokai have lived wonderously and peacefully.

To the point human yokai hybrids, Han’yo, are generally accepted members of society, and with the power to disguise oneself as a human, you can never truly tell at a first glance if someone is a han’yo, a Yokai in disguise, or just a normal person like you and I.

Even with a long reign of peace and harmony, nothing lasts forever as they say.

After all, once a yokai enters your life, it’s never the same as it was before.
